Watch Towers

These old watchtowers are all along the coast of Spain. It seems that they were built after Spain had finaly thrown off the yoke of the moslem oppression of the Ottoman Empire (early fourteen hundreds). They were built and used to watch the mediteranean sea to gaurd against re-invasion. There was a very realistic fear that these vicious maurauders would return. They were in control only a few miles to the South in North Africa, and were (through piracy) in control of the shipping lanes between the Mediteranean and the Atlantic. It is said that "eternal vigilance is the price of liberty"
